Server Support
Contact your Admins for problems and issues (PM on the Penny Arcade Forums).

Encartrus, VrtraTheory, Defster, Azmaranthe

Common Problems include: Whitelisting, Server issues (multiple players encountering lag, etc.), Player issues (Griefing/Theft/People being dicks)

Server Information
  • Server Address: 198.23.148.84:25765
  • Server Stats: 2GB RAM, 25 player cap.
  • Server Type: Vanilla 1.8.1
  • World Border: 10000 by 10000 at time of origin.
  • Fire: No Spread.
  • Difficulty: Hard
  • Playmode: Survival (occasionally this will change to Adventure based upon server events).
  • PvP: Enabled (See PVP rules for details! This is not a free-for-all server).
  • Biomes: Default

    The Ten Commandments (Rules):
    Spoiler:
    • Thou shalt not be a dick! (The same moderations rules apply on the server as apply on the PA forums for chat.)
    • Thou shalt not steal. (If it’s not your chest and your blocks, don’t touch it. Store your precious things in enderchests!)
    • Thou shalt not grief. (Griefing includes: breaking buildings, filling buildings with mobs, otherwise defacing or annoying another player or their build. Building too close to another established build (within render distance) can be griefing if the build is not considered Public and if you have not received approval from the previous build. The map is huge, and expands frequently. There are plenty of places to go. Pixel art is ALWAYS considered griefing your immediate neighbors unless specifically approved by an admin.).
    • Thou shalt not cheat. (Includes XRAY resource packs and other related client based cheats or abusing command block shops).
    • Thou shalt consider Villages, Strongholds, and other generated structures as Public. (You can build in and around them but you cannot monopolize or destroy them.)
    • Thou shalt follow Team rules. (Teams are established and have very specific rules on this server. They also gain the ability to freely PVP and participate in specific server events. Team Rules are found below).
    • Thou shalt not build grinders without off switches and/or overflow control. (All grinders, be it for EXP, autofarms, or item drops. This goes back to the “Don’t be a dick” rule as having too many entities can cause server lag for everyone. A large build should have less than 300 entities at most. A grinder should never have more than 100 active).
    • Thou shalt not be idle for longer than two hours. (After two hour of no movement players will be kicked for inactivity. You can grind but be reasonable about it)
    • Thou shalt sign and torch your build. (All builds that you want to reserve the location for should be torched and signed. On your sign:
      L1: Your Name
      L2: Your Team (optional)
L3: The Name of the Build
      L4: The date founded
    • Thou shalt follow the PvP Policy. (PvP is enabled by default on this server, but that does not mean this server is a free for all server. PvP rules are as follows: PvP always refers to weapons and potion attacks, never TNT, Wither Spawning, or other forms of block destruction. Any block destruction may be seen as griefing. PvP may occur between any player labeled HOSTILE against another player labeled HOSTILE. Items may not be stolen via PvP aside from Flags, Weapons, and Player Heads. Leave blocks, armor, tools, and other materials where the player died. Killing a player on their bed as they spawn is considered griefing, as are similar contexts of camping and repeatedly hounding a single player. Don’t be a dick applies. In some situations, PvP of non Hostile members may be context appropriate based upon server events. If you make a trap dungeon (or any other lethal trap device) you must indicate to players entering the vicinity that such traps are about. Such warnings should be at choke points required to pass through to approach the trapped building or room and are encouraged to have ender chests nearby. Random bombs or pitfalls without notice may be considered griefing depending on the situation.

Violation of the commandments may result in immediate banning and/or a lifetime of torture.

    Happy Building!.

Social Entropy Server Rules!
For the full rules list, see the wiki linked above.
  • Don't be a dick. Build a dick if you must, but don't act like one. If this confuses you then I suggest going back to kindergarten, remembering the Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.), or just ask the admins if what you wanna do is okay. I promise you we won't kill you for simply asking a question. Practical jokes and the like are okay but only so long as you talk to the admins first! We are awful people with a great sense of humor I swear!
  • We'll invite your friends but if your friend is a jerk you are banned as well. Life is cruel.
  • We play on hard mode. You are only offered admin assistance if we feel like it, do not ask and do not expect it. We are nice people but you are not entitled to special treatment, no matter how much money you donate. Life is more cruel.
  • PM nuka, ruddeh or twixxo if you wish to be whitelisted.
  • PLEASE read the thread for important information regarding the server! This is where we keep everyone up-to-date, and where most of everyone else discuss their projects. If you ignore this thread you risk being left out of the loop.
  • LEAVE THE STRONGHOLDS ALONE! Explore them and put up torches if you would like to, but please leave everything else in place! We only get three of them. We don't care about villages as they are infinite, but if you find a village someone has been tending, treat it as if it was any other person's pet project. You may also explore and loot dungeons and ruins, but be mindful that someone isn't using that ruin as a home.
  • Please obey the border in The Nether. Due to our limited map size you may only build teleports out of the nether in a certain radius. The Nether map itself however is limitless.
Server Information:
Server IP: tiger.pennycraft.org
Try as you might, you can't join us unless you are whitelisted. Please PM Myself or Twixxo.

We use Bukkit, and we're currently on RC Build: Nope
Server Plugins Spreadsheet
Feel free to suggest us plugins to use but they must be compatible or we can't install them. They also can't require users to install something to access the server as some people use the browser and cannot install mods. Plugins must also be compatible with what we currently run.

We will never require you to install a mod to access our server. The only thing you must download is Minecraft itself, or if necessary an out-of-date version to stay with our server as it catches up. Upgrading the plugins we use take time. In the event it takes a very long time, we may set up a Mod Pack Server for community preservation, and you will be required to install a new client. THIS WILL FOREVER BE THE EXCEPTION. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PLAY ON A MOD PACK SERVER. MOD PACK SERVER IS NOT MAIN SERVER.

As all things in life, nothing is free. We don't require you to pay to play, nor do we have those stupid "earn powers by donating!" schemes, but without donations we can't pay for the server. If you wish to donate, contact Introp. Apricotmuffins, Hofsta, TankHammer, and VALVEjunkie have stepped forward to offer their pixel art skills for donators so if you wish for a custom skin after donating, PM them. All donations go strictly to server renting fees, and you only get a skin if you ask for it. Twixxo sells T-Shirts and other things, but you are not awarded them for donating either.
Twixxo wrote: »
The first of hopefully multiple designs I've created for server shirts is done! They go for $20 + shipping, and $4.60 of profits of each shirt will be donated to the server! Colors offered are white, grey, light blue, navy blue and royal blue. More designs to come soon/eventually!
Spoiler:

Lore, Frostheim, & Server Events:
Evil is attacking Haven. Will you sign up to save us? Contact Hofsta, leader of the Frost Legion and Lord of Frostheim in game to join us and defeat these intruders!

Because we love you, as well as for further understanding of what on Haven is going on here, we've woven lore about our present and past maps. If you wish to participate, this is recommended reading.

Do you want a colored name? Ask Muddeh in game!

If you have a large project and would like assistance, PM me so I can add it to the OP.

Zeus is a blind Western screech owl. His starry eyes are due to a vitreous abnormality which is commonly described as vitreous veils or strands. Eyes are filled with a clear gel called vitreous humor, but sometimes cells or strands of the gel can clump together so that they are less transparent than the rest of the gel. Zeus also doesn’t appear to have an iris or lens, so his lack of eyesight means that he can’t be released into the wild.

Thank God, I shall come to no common end! To be happy means to be sleepy, in the language of slaves. It is as if I had pap and lukewarm water in my mouth when they talk to me of happiness. So vapid and so irredeemable is all for which you slaves give up your laurel crowns, your immortality!
—Friedrich Hölderlin, “Hyperion”

puzzlewood_11_by_ladyxboleyn-d6cpzuu.jpg
Said to have inspired the likes J R R Tolkien and J K Rowling, Puzzlewood is an ancient woodland in The Forest of Dean, Gloucester. In the 19th century a mile of winding pathways leading over wooden bridges, and through deep and narrow gaps in the rocks, were laid and have remained mostly unchanged ever since. There is evidence of cast iron ore mining dating back to Roman times and in 1848 two workers discovered, in a hole in a rock, three earthenware jars filled with 3000 Roman coins.

The lovely Irish folk tune Port na bPúcaí (“The Music of the Fairies”) had mystical beginnings — it’s said that the people of the Blasket Islands heard ethereal music and wrote an air to match it, hoping to placate unhappy spirits. Seamus Heaney’s poem “The Given Note” tells of a fiddler who took the song “out of wind off mid-Atlantic”:

Strange noises were heard
By others who followed, bits of a tune
Coming in on loud weather
Though nothing like melody.

Recent research suggests that, rather than fairies, the islanders may have been hearing the songs of whales transmitted through the canvas hulls of their fishing boats. Humpback whales pass through Irish waters each winter as they migrate south from the North Atlantic, and their songs seem to resemble the folk tune.

Ronan Browne, who plays the air above on Irish pipes, writes, “In the mid 1990s I went rooting through some cassettes of whale song and there in the middle of the Orca (Killer Whale) section I heard the opening notes of Port na bPúcaí!”

No one can say for certain whether the one inspired the other, of course, but if they didn’t it’s certainly a pleasing coincidence.

So I am on a grand months-long sojourn across the entire continental United States (mostly the west coast because the family is there) and I've been enjoying the many and sundry wonders of this great nation

But also I've been bored stiff driving across interstates and wondering why anyone would ever go to New Mexico for any reason. Also I got food poisoning in a Waffle House in Texas when there was three inches of snow on the ground. It's been a weird couple of months!

Still, it's been a real fun experience, for the most part. There's something about the simple goals of a road trip, the clarity of purpose and (beyond holiday and family obligations) the freedom to go wherever you please that makes it different from flying somewhere and renting a car, y'know?

So in light of the scope of this journey I am on (and since Christmas is over now) I thought I'd make a thread where we could talk about traveling and vacations and stuff

Where have you been, SE++, and where do you hope to go?

...and also can you Seattle people tell me where to go because I don't know shit about anything around here. I guess the space needle is cool?? And there's casinos I guess???

Hey kids, it's the relationship thread.

I don't have a lot to post here myself at the moment, what with being single and all, but I am trying to remedy that situation via the world of online dating, so I may have something to say occasionally.

Otherwise, this is a venue for your own relationships, but do keep in mind this is a 13+ forum.

So almost every little girl at some point in time has had the dream of walking down the aisle, or any aisle really, to get married to her dreamy prince. In the past a wedding would likely be a giant affair with your family, your town, and potentially the entire county along for the ride. But lately they're becoming a bit more low key. Or at least that's what my bridal magazines tell me!

There are a few of us here that have just recently gotten engaged and a few who have just recently gotten hitched! This thread is for us. It's going to be intended as a place where we can all get together and panic about planning, discuss the ups and downs and ins and outs and positives and negatives of In-Laws and families. Of best Friends and fighting bridesmaids! Of Groomsmen you adore and best men you might not be able to stand. Of catering and flowers and dresses and hair and makeup and suits and presents.

What I really don't want to happen is for the thread to devolve into an argument/discussion about the value of 'marriage' as an institution, or the big pile o'money that the bridal industry is. Most of us know that!

So ladies and gents and everybody in between and around, let's talk about weddings! I'll be sure to edit in some helpful links for resources and things in here when I find some!

Splatatatatatatatatatata

l0s85nn.png

Splatoon is the first new IP Nintendo since Pikmin...kinda. Actually Nintendo has put out quite a few new IPs such as Dillon, Pushmo, and so forth, but Splatoon is the first that's being developed by Nintendo dev (EAD, in fact) and debuting on the Wii U instead of handheld. It's also a third person shooter, something Nintendo isn't particularly known for, and the game is...peculiar. It's about humanoid squid kids who participate in a sport known as Turf Wars, where the objective is for the two teams to cover the arena in as much of their team's ink color within three minutes. This is done using a variety of ink-firing weapons like squirt guns and paint rollers. You can turn into a (defenseless) squid to quickly traverse through your own ink, even climbing up inked surfaces, but you will move slowly and take damage when in enemy ink.
HERO MODE
TluTQwE.jpg

Hero Mode is the single player campaign, in which the player is recruited by Captain Cuttlefish to defend Inkopolis against an impending Octarian invasion. The gameplay is mostly disconnected from multiplayer: you have one weapon, and you can spend power eggs collected in each stage to upgrade your gear and wield multiple grenade types, but nothing carries from or over to multi. You do, however, unlock multiplayer items for beating bosses, and I do recommend you play it as the game does a good job of teaching you various tricks and is also really fun. It's very much an EAD game, and it shows with gameplay that wouldn't be out of place in a Mario title. It's short, but tightly designed and finishes on a high note instead of dragging on and wearing out its welcome. You can also collect scrolls in each level to learn Splatoon's backstory. WORLDBUILDING!
AMIIBO
tv9Q6B4.png

The last single player mode involves the three Amiibos made for Splatoon. While the Inklings are pretty common, the Squid is only available via a three-pack which by the time you read this will probably be fairly scarce if not totally sold out. Each Amiibo unlocks challenges in the game that, upon completion, award a bunch of cosmetic items for use in the game. Note that these challenges are just replaying Hero Mode levels with specific weapons, and you need to finish the level in Hero Mode before you can attempt the challenge. Modes also unlock a special minigame for play while waiting for games to start along with an alternate skin for an existing weapon.

hPXfY0E.jpg?1
The Squid unlocks a speed run mode where you have to finish the level within a time limit. You, however, have your squid form replaced with a mighty kraken form that can glides through enemy ink with no issues and does a devastating spin attack when jumping. The gear it unlocks is a robo...suit or something.

U3dck3K.jpg?1
The Inkling Girl requires you to beat stages with the Charger weapon, a sniper-rifle weapon that requires charging for more power. Your reward for this is a schoolgirl outfit with Splatoon S hair clip.

gfw2j8a.png?1
The Inkling Boy requires you to beat stages with the Roller weapon, a melee weapon with a powerful, but short range, paint fling attack. Your reward for this is a samurai outfit.

The Splatoon amiibos also have interactions with other games, but as of writing this they are very inconsequential and not worth mentioning here. Check out the amiibo site if you're interested in that.
MULTIPLAYER
3qq6L51.png?1

Multiplayer is the meat of Splatoon, and where you'll be spending majority of your team. Currently Splatoon has three multiplayer modes, but others are on the way. The modes are:

Battle Dojo: Two players try to pop the most balloons. This is local co-op only, and it's the only local multiplayer the game has. Sorry!
Turf War: The objective is to ink more ground than your opponent within three minutes. This is the main casual mode for the game, and the only mode currently in the game.
Splat Zones (Unlocking Soon): A king of the hill mode where you have to ink specific locations to claim them. Claiming these zones cause your tickets to go down, with a team winning at 0 tickets.
Tower Control (NYI): A mode where players must occupy the top of a tower in order to make it move towards their enemy's base. Get the tower to their base or have the tower closer to their base than yours and win.
Rainmaker (NYI): No information has been given about this mode.

The game has a ranked mode which, when unlocked, will feature Splat Zones as its game mode. You get a grade that reflects your skill level in these games.

There's a variety of stuff to unlock. First are weapons, which come in three types: primary, sub, and special. Primary is your main inking tool, subs are gadgets like grenades or ink-spraying walls to block shots, and special is like a Super Attack that you can execute after inking enough space. Unlock other games, weapons come in premade sets and CANNOT be mixed up. Therefore, it is possible to have multiple iterations of a primary weapon with the only major difference being the sub and special weapon you get.

Primary weapons come in three types:

Shooter: Rapid fire weapons with decent range and power.
Charger: A sniping-esque weapon, with long range and the ability to charge for improved shots.
Roller: Melee weapons that will one-shot anything it rolls over, and can also be swung for a short-range but powerful wave of ink.

Subs come in a variety of types:

Burst Bomb: A grenade that explodes on impact. It consumes less ink than most sub weapons, but the damage isn't the highest.
Splat Bomb: A grenade that explodes after a short duration, dealing heavy damage in a small area.
Ink Mine: A land mine that explodes when touched by an enemy or after a long enough period.
Disruptor: A grenade that deals no damage, but greatly weakens and slows the enemy for a lengthy duration.
Point Sensor: A grenade that deals no damage, but reveals all enemy hit by it for a period, showing them through walls, when hiding in ink, and on your map.
Splash Wall: Creates a small device that sprays ink downward, effectively making a wall through which enemies cannot fire. Will also splat any enemy that tries to walk through it.
Sprinkler: Sprays ink in a radius around it until destroyed or a new one is thrown out.
Suction Bomb: A grenade that sticks to a surface and explodes after a duration.
Squid Beakon: Drops a radar that allows your or other players to super jump to it by tapping it on the game pad. Can be destroyed by enemy fire or if a players jumps to it.

Special weapons have several options:

Bubbler: Makes the player invulnerable for a few seconds. Can spread to allies by getting close to them.
Kraken: Temporarily turn into a kraken that can move quickly through all terrain (even enemy ink) and splat enemies by jumping at that.
Echolocator: Reveal all enemies to your team for a duration. They can be seen through walls, while hiding in ink, and on your map.
Inkstrike: Tap the map to launch a massive explosion of ink that will devastate enemies.
Inkzooka: For a short period, your normal attacks are replaced with swirling ink tornado shots that will instantly splat enemies.
Killer Wail: Fires a long soundwave that will splat any enemy count in its path, but does not leave any ink.

Wanna know when you unlock stuff? Check the spoiler!
Spoiler:
Ko7u4Gj.png

You can also play dress-up with your Inkling by buying clothes. There's headgear, shirts, and shoes available (black biker shorts are considered the height of Inkling fashion). Gear also has slots, which has abilities that give you character a small edge. All gear has a default main ability, and then up to three extra slots that start unfilled but later gain a random ability by earning enough XP. You can also add slots to a piece of gear that has less than four slots OR reroll any ability on gear that isn't the main ability by giving a Super Sea Snail (or 30,000 cash at level 20) to the shady Spyke. More details on that later.

Wanna know what abilities dude? Roll that beautiful cheat sheet footage!

DLC & EVENTS
uWyDwQO.png

Splatfests are also a special event that happens every so often. You'll have the option to join one of two teams, and fight for your side for the opportunity to earn Super Sea Snails for gear. An example is the upcoming Team Cat vs. Team Dog Splatfest in North America on June 20th.

DLC is on the way, with a whopping nine maps already in the works alongside new weapons and game modes. August will be the first major update for the game, with custom lobbies, friend parties, and more goodies becoming available. I'll post information here on new stuff as it becomes available. Currently all DLC announced will be free to all players.

Spoiler:
I tried to contact a mod and none were on, if they feel this thread should be locked go ahead, but I needed to talk about it

Baltimore MD is on fire.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bal-university-of-baltimore-closes-amid-high-school-purge-threat-20150427-story.html#page=1
Violence and looting overtook much of West Baltimore on Monday, injuring more than a dozen police officers and leaving a store and several vehicles in flames.

As night fell, looters took to Mondawmin Mall and a Save-A-Lot and Rite Aid in Bolton Hill, loading up cars with stolen goods. A large senior center under construction at Chester and Gay streets was engulfed in a three-alarm fire crews were battling.

Fifteen police officers were injured in a clash with school-age children that began around 3 p.m., and two remain hospitalized, police Col. Darryl DeSousa said in a press conference Monday night. Earlier, police spokesman Capt. Eric Kowalczyk said one officer was unresponsive and others suffered broken bones
The incident stemmed from a flier that circulated widely among city school students via social media about a “purge” to take place at 3 p.m., starting at Mondawmin Mall and ending downtown. Such memes have been known to circulate regularly among city school students, based on the film "The Purge," about what would happen if all laws were suspended.

The flier included an image of protesters smashing the windshield of a police car Saturday during a march spurred by the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old man who suffered a spinal cord injury earlier this month after being arrested by city police.

Kowalczyk would not speculate on whether the incident was related to Gray’s death.

I think basically all of us here would agree that police violence is abhorrent

but what we are seeing here is beyond a response to that and I am sitting here shaking

half my extended family is in baltimore and they will be in my thoughts tonight

Hope you and yours stay safe.

Destiny: ¡CASA DE LOBOS! - Out May 19th

Hello there!

Thank you for coming to this thread, which is about the video game Destiny™, made by Bungie®, the developers of Halo™. There is a new expansion out imminently. What does it have? Not a gosh-darn raid, that's for sure!!!!

It is called CASA DE LOBOS

image

Since we've established there's NO RAID, what else is in this twenty-dollar BUNDLE OF LIES?

Trials of Osiris
In Trials of Osiris, three-player Guardian Fireteams face one another in Elimination-style combat. The more wins a Fireteam strings together, the greater their rewards. Only the most skilled Fireteams will reach the pinnacle of glory, but all who enter will have the opportunity to claim weapons and gear to bolster their might.

It's like press your luck, but with homicide?

Prison of Elders
The Prison of Elders is a combat arena hidden deep within the Reef. Under the care of the Variks, the Prison of Elders will challenge Guardians in aggressive combat scenarios meant to test their teamwork and skill. Those Guardians who prove themselves against the Prison's onslaught will earn the riches of the Queen’s realm as bounty.

I don't know, Horde Mode???

They're doing some other stuff too, like letting you upgrade your armors to the highest tier and also maybe doing something to prevent trivializing old content? I don't know I'm not a game designer. Also you don't have to wear your fuck-ugly Crota gear anymore (this is important)

Always remember: despite all the time you've spent playing this game, levelling up, and upgrading your equipment, you will never overcome the deep, existential dread you feel in your darkest moments, that everything - the entirety of your life's experience - might ultimately be devoid of meaning. That same dread you stave off, desperately, through the acquisition and use of consumer entertainment products.

Let's all have fun playing Destiny™!

MKX introduces two new concepts: variations and factions

Variations:

Each fighter has three different variations, each featuring a different set of moves they can use during the fight. For example, the character Scorpion features a "Ninjutsu" variation in which he wields dual swords, a "Hellfire" variation which relies more on fiery special moves, and an "Inferno" variation which allows him to summon hellspawn minions to aid him in the fight.

Faction Wars:

Players will have to choose one from the five factions (Black Dragon, the Brotherhood of Shadow, the Lin Kuei, Special Forces, and White Lotus) to align with and join a persistent online cross-platform competition with the others, winning points for their faction to contribute in the conflict between them, ranking up personally, and earning special rewards such as faction-specific finishing moves if the player's faction win at the end of any given week.

Oh and there is a comic out that is pretty good that ties the events from MK9 to MKX:

So I finally have something to contribute to the food thread and I find the old one closed! I guess I'll start a new one.

So I'm eating some baby carrots right now and they taste a little off.

LGBT Pride Month is here! And so this is a thread for anyone and anything LGBT (and Q and U and A and I and whatever other letter is right for you)

See any cool LGBT news lately? Do you do anything fun or special during Pride Month? Are you somewhere in the QUILTBAG and want to talk about it? Do you know a cool LGBT related history fact? Are you doing something awesome for queer people in your life or community? Are you straight and have a question and promise to actually listen to the answer?

Then talk about that shit, I want to hear it all, just be fabulous to each other.

Things I am looking forward to this month: Going to way more Capital Pride stuff in DC, last year I just did the parade and it was great fun but I wished I had gone to way more events. So this year I'm gonna!

Also SCOTUS is gonna hand down a big ruling on same sex marriage this month, but the wait for that is kinda nerve wracking because there is always the chance Kennedy decides to be terrible.

Oh wait shit one other thing totally worth putting in here is that Ireland passed marriage equality by popular vote! That is totally fucking awesome!

Yes, by the grace of the ancient parchment of @Larlar‌ , this is now a regular thread. That means that anybody, after the end of this one, can make another. Alright, gang, let's work our magic.

As always, share happy fun content. Happy songs, happy stories, cute animals; although if your animal pic is potentially creepy, put it in a spoiler with a warning.

As it is now not only acceptable but mandatory, I think there need to be some guidelines. The only real hard and fast rule is:
Veldrin wrote:
it might be a good idea to chuck something in the OP about being mindful of not posting stuff involving illegally captive animals (e.g. slow loris) or anything involving animal cruelty misinterpreted as cute.

Do your homework. Something might look cute, but with the example given, the slow loris in question is in fact fucking terrified.

Do include your own stuff. Have pets? Have a camera? Let us see your buddies!

Do keep snakes, bugs, and other weird stuff behind spoiler tags. It's sad, but some folks have issues with snakes, spiders, and so on. They can be pretty, but keep in mind that, e.g., arachnophobia is pretty common and put that pic of your pet Goliath bird-eating spider behind a spoiler tag with a warning.

Kids are good too! Snugglehug isn't just cute animals. It can be anything that makes you go "d'awwww".

Do post unsolicited dik dik pics.

Unsnugglehuggy explanation for lack of more holiday dag pictures
Spoiler:
There was a larger group of photos in the set I found but they were a little off-putting, because most of them had the dogs wrapped up in Christmas lights, usually with the cords around their necks. Maybe I'm overreacting, but that came off to me as being dangerous, not cute.

After over a year, Homestuck is now updating regularly again again!

Here's a convenient horse-based calendar system to help you plan out your coming weeks:

horsecalendar_2015_2.gif

If you're just joining us again and have maybe forgotten where you left off, here's some helpful hints. Let's start from, say, [ S] Cascade.

Spoilers, obviously, with RETJOHNNED parts in strikethrough, additions in bold. (Parts that still happened from John's perspective are dealt with on an inconsistent, case-by-case basis.)
Spoiler:
- The kids turn out to be responsible for creating the Green Sun.
- Act 6 opens with introducing us to the post-Scratch kids' universe, introducing Jane, Roxy, Jake, and Dirk.
- Since they are from the post-Scratch universe, that means their guardians were the post-Scratch analogues of Rose, Dave, and Jade. John's Dad, though, appears exactly the same as Jane's Dad.
- In the post-Scratch Earth, the kids receive the Sburb Alpha from the all-powerful Crockercorp.
- Instead of Becquerel, post-Scratch's Earth's First Guardian is Gcat.
- Act 6 is punctuated with a series of Intermissions, which track the adventures of the pre-Act 6 cast.
- Act 6 also introduces the pre-Scratch trolls (instead of Alternia, they called their planet "Beforus"). Only two of them are important to late events: Meenah, a spunky heiress whose hero is the post-Scratch version of herself, Her Imperial Condescension; and Aranea, a bookish Scorpio troll with a gift for gab whose hero is the post-Scratch version of herself, Mindfang.
- Speaking of HIC, as Lord English's servant, she has been tasked with preparing the post-Scratch universe for his arrival. At some point in the future (relative to 2011), she took over all the world's government and wiped out most of the human race. Before this, she headed Betty Crocker, Inc.
- Jane and Jake are from 2011, while Roxy and Dirk live alone in the post-apocalyptic future brought about by HIC.
- Act 6 also introduces the Cherubs Calliope and Caliborn.
- Calliope is portrayed as shy, gentle, and sweet. Her brother, Caliborn, is a psychopath.
- One of the major reveals is that the two cherubs share the same body. When one goes to sleep, the other wakes up. When we first meet them, they are trapped in a room until one of them comes to "dominate".
- At the end of Act 5, the original or "beta" kids were separated into two groups. Rose and Dave reached godtier in the closing moments of Act 5, and joined the remaining trolls (Karkat, Terezi, Kanaya, Vriska, and Gamzee) on the meteor. Jade, John, and all the planets and sprites from Acts 1-5 hitched a ride on a battleship Jade piloted through the Fourth Wall.
- Two exceptions to the troll count are Aradia and Sollux. Sollux is still half-alive, while Aradia is godtier but otherwise mostly neutral.
- For the most part, nothing productive happens on either vessels during the three-year journey to the new, post-Scratch kids' universe. As the meteor sails through the Furthest Ring, it occasionally interacts with dream bubbles, which for the most part means encounters with the pre-Scratch trolls. The dream bubbles also intersect each other, meaning some of the trolls from different universes can interact.
- Meenah sets about trying to raise a ghost army, which she winds up putting to use for Vriska's plan to gain the ultimate weapon to defeat Lord English. Also assisting her in this plan are Aranea, Tavros, half-alive Sollux, and several other dead trolls. Karkat meets her in one dream bubble and they agree to work together, but nothing comes of it.
-Terezi spends a large part of Act 6 with her eyes covered, with the reveal near the end that she had Aranea (a Slyph of Light) heal her eyesight. She has come to regret this. She is also still wracked with guilt by her decision to kill Vriska. Until an invention near the end of the meteor's journey, she has gradually developed a Faygo-addiction in the throes of a blackrom with Gamzee.
- Rose develops an alcohol problem, but begins dating Kanaya. Kanaya also met her ancestor, a troll named Porrim who is, shall we say, very comfortable in her own skin. She teaches Kanaya the trick to controlling her drinker glowness.
- Given the fact that Kanaya was last seen trying to kill him, Gamzee spends most of the time on the meteor in hiding. In one dream bubble sequence, though, a troll named Kurloz brings him the pieces he needs to outfit himself as a godtier. This includes a ridiculous codpiece.
- Dave mostly spends his time hanging out Karkat and/or WV, whom he refers to as the Mayor.
- Jade dates Davesprite for a while before they break up. John gradually gains some teenager angst, but at his core he's still, well, John. In one dream bubble sequence he steals/recovers a Ring of Life, which has the power to bring any ghost, well, back to life.
- For the most part, the new kids are long on interpersonal drama but short on doing things.
- Jane is the first into the Medium. Jane is equal parts serious and silly, and enjoys solving mysteries. She has a huge crush on Jake.
- Jake loves adventures, being strong, and blue alien ladies. He turns out to also have been Jade's Penpal from back in the day. His speech is peppered with early-20th century slang, despite growing up in 2011. He lives on a remote island, but the island is covered in jungle infested with beasts from Alternia. Jake isn't sure who he likes, and is for the most part baffled as to why people find him attractive.
- Dirk is a too-cool-for-school genius. While he very much appreciates irony, he is generally more low-key and legitimately calm, cool, and collected (as opposed to, say, Dave). He invented an artificial intelligence based on his own intellect (though from a couple years ago) to serve as an auto-repsonder, and then embedded the program into one of his pairs of shades. As a result, while has grown more mature, the AR is still mostly himself at 13. Dirk and the AR both have a huge crush on Jake.
- Roxy is a spunky h4x0r g1rl who has, perhaps unsurprisingly, a drinking problem. She legitimately loves wizards, and also cats. "Her possession" is the answer to what happened to Jaspers, basically. Roxy has a crush on the unobtainable Dirk.
- The alpha kids interact with each other and the two cherubs. Calliope is nice and friendly and tries to give the alpha kids advice without affecting the timeline too much. She considers Roxy her best friend. Caliborn taunts and insults the alpha kids, though he hates Dirk a little less than the others. As a result, he asks Dirk to draw weirdly tame "pornography" for him.
- The Alpha kids all enter the Medium with various degrees of distress, but their session is a void one: its Skaia cannot bear the seeds of a new universe, no matter what they do. This is where Jade's plan comes in: by bringing the Skaia and planets from their session, they can make it whole. This explains the 8-planet diagram from Act 2.
- Caliborn predominates over his sister (by hiring his session's Jack Noir to kill her dreamself and then escaping his confines by biting off his own leg) and enters the Medium into a dead session, which has special rules. Also mysteriously present in this realm is Gamzee, who despite Caliborn's best efforts, continues to live. At this point, Caliborn also talks directly to the narrator/author.
- In the Alpha session, their HB? was decapitated by Dirk and through a series of events that Jack Noir is captured by the forces of Propsit. DD? takes over administration of Derse in his stead, though he still ships off most of the boring paperwork to Jack.
- Let's fast-forward a bit. Jane alchemizes both the cherbus' jujus, which are red and green suckers. They combine, and then Jane cannot resist taking a lick. This engages TRICKSTER MODE. She gradually infects the other three alpha kids, though it seems to have little effect on Dirk other than changing his appears. They declare that being tricksters allow them to resolve all their personal problems and make everything great forever. The end.
- They wake up with massive hangovers on their quest beds in the middle of Prospit and Derse.
- Still in jail on Propsit, Jack receives a gift. (It's actually the second one he gets, but the first is a useless one from CD?.) It contains the fixed up, green-felt Lil' Cal doll. As Caliborn stares into its eyes, Jack does the same, causing him to be overtaken by his will. Jack stabs out his own eyes, saws off his own leg, and blows his way out of the prison. The fires begin consuming the planet.
- At the same time, HIC appears (having also usurped this universe's Derse). Together, and Jack and destroy Propsit and Derse's moons, thus killing the Alpha kids on their quest beds.
- Jake and Jane are immediately beset by the crazed Jack, but Jade arrives just in time to stop him. She transports him to the edge of their Incipisphere.
- HIC uses her inherent Scorpio and Taurus powers to control Jade, who thus becomes "grimbark". She then teleports Jane's tiaratop right onto Jane's head, giving HIC direct control over Jane.
- Dirk, being the most dangerous of the kids, also gets transported to the edge of the Incipisphere.
- Roxy and Jake are then thrown in jail back on Derse.
- As the meteor gets closer to its arrival, we are also treated to intermissions of intermissions where Caliborn expands his retinue of followers (who turn out to be the Felt) while he destroys planets in a tricky and specified order.
- John has one last encounter with Vriska and Co., which ends awkwardly since most of her crew abandons her because, well, she's kind of an asshole. She does, however, succeed in finding the "weapon", which turns out to be a weird panel that looks like the Sburb logo. John sticks his arm in it, which causes him to zap away.
- These "zaps" bounce John around in the Homestuck canon. They also allow him to alter the procession of it without any repercussions (as opposed to time travel). Notably, many back pages of Homestuck now have John's arm hidden somewhere in them.
- Spades Slick survived the raid on Hussie's mansion by Lord English, and escapes with the Felt and Ms. Paint in tow. They use the 4th Panel to go back to Doc Scratch's apartment, and then escape through the grandfather clock to alpha kids' Incipisphere. This adds a third party working their way back toward the inner planets, after Dirk and that universe's Jack Noir.
- John continues zapping uncontrollably through the canon, but he finally winds up back in the new Medium, just after the battleship arrives.
- The Meteor approaches at the same time. Jade appears and then teleports all aboard to John's location, much to his happy surprise.
- At this point, Caliborn has gained control over the narrative prompt and hijacks the website for an infantile parody of Homestuck called "HOMOSUCK".
- While laughing manically, he accidentally unlocks a panel in the room he's currently in (similar to WV) which contains three items: a basic drawing book for children, a "How to Draw Manga" book with a poorly drawn manga lady on the cover, and the Homestuck ACT 6 ACT 6 SUPERCARTRIDGE EXPANSION PACK.
- Caliborn fills the cartridge with special stardust and plugs it in. The stardust becomes a factor in most of the narrative up to the present.
- After being reunited, the remaining kids and trolls have been scattered across various planets. In time, we learn that only John has any idea what happened, but he's usually not around for every long as he continues to run from Jade.
- Jade (well, HIC) has a mission for the still in-jail Roxy: to use her powers as a Rogue of Void to "steal" the Matriorb back from being destroyed. Roxy reluctantly agrees to comply, though Jade isn't really very good at being evil.
- Jane, now basically a robot for HIC, also has a mission for Jake: even though she doesn't know why she liked him so much now, she says that he will still give her lots of children once she's running the show. Jake, for his part, sobs uncontrollably and whines to his brain ghost image of Dirk.
- Jade also has a mission for Dave, but he is extremely reluctant to ever use his time-travel powers ever again.
- Jade and Jane team up to give Kanaya and Karkat a mission, and to secure their compliance, Jane kills, and then using her Maid of Life powers, revives Karkat.
- This sort of works, but it mostly just makes Kanaya pissed off at Jane.
- John's windy powers can clean up the pixelation caused by the stardust.
- At first, the original(?) Jack Noir and PM, now both infused with Bec powers from their rings, were chasing after each other, but they have settled into working together.
- As events wind toward where the Gigapause started, John sends himself to meet with Roxy. He tries to help her with using her godtier powers to use the Matriorb, which sort of helps.
- However, he heads back to the Battleship and notices that his ring is missing. This is because Aranea had Gamzee hid in his fridge and then steal it when the opportunity revealed itself. Using mind control, she then has Gamzee go to sleep and bring her the ring, thus reviving her. Aranea's plan is to fuck things up sufficiently that the current session doesn't bear fruit, and then use her own powers to prevent the chain of events that spawn Lord English, this removing him from all realities. Meenah tries to talk her out of it, but fails and instead is left to chill out with Vriska.
- Aranea then sets her plan in motion by trying "awaken" Jake's Page of Hope powers via a kiss. This fails, so she just heals him instead. This causes Jake to speak entirely in booming, old-timey phrases. He is also powerful enough to fend off even Jade. To resolve the situation, Jade teleports everyone in a certain radius to her own planet, LOFAF. (Which is also where Karkat and Kanaya are already.)
- Karkat hears from Meenah about Aranea's plan, and also contacts Dave, who in turns gets in touch with Rose. Thus, the remaining characters converge on LOFAF.
- In the ensuing fighting, Aranea kills Jade by burying her under her own house. Aranea manipulates the odds to make Jade's death just. Dave wants to use Jane's powers to remedy the situation, but Gamzee comes out of no where and entangles himself with Jane. After that is resolved by a flying Terezi kick to the face, PM and Jack arrive and fly off with Jade's body.
- Terezi begins beating up and stabbing Gamzee with her cane.
- Ghost Jade winds up at the same voidy vortex Calliope has ensconced herself in. (This is the last sighting of these two characters as of right now.)
- Jake's hope powers cause his brain ghost image of Dirk to become real. Dirk takes up the fight against Aranea by using his Prince of Heart powers to rip Aranea's soul from her body, which will kill her even despite the ring. However, the ring's effects make this task very time-consuming.
- In this process, Rose arrives to see that Roxy is passed out beside that scene. Dirk tells her to get Roxy out of there.
- Jake's protective hope field dissipates as Aranea slowly dies, giving Jane an opening to kill him. His death is considered heroic.
- Aranea's soul snaps back into her body, but her mind control spell over Gamzee is broken, so he starts to beat the shit out of Terezi. Jake revives near the scene, but he is unable to do anything. Neither is Rose.
- Jane takes the opening to move in on Aranea, so she puts her to sleep. However, Jane powers through it and sort of begins sleep-beating her up.
- Karkat and Kanaya arrive just in time to witness the scene. Karkat tells Gamzee that they're not going to hug it out this time, but that's right when HIC's battleship arrives. She looks none too pleased at the situation.

And that's that where we stopped before the gigapause! (Uh, let me know if I missed anything important or got anything wrong.) When I have time I might add links to this. Updates resumed here. Here's those events, with the same notes from above.
Spoiler:
- With the resumption of updates, we were treated to another round of Caliborn's "masterpiece". His latest announcement is that he has mastered the techniques of drawing manga.
- During the middle of Caliborn's self-aggrandizing, John once finds himself in the same room as him. ANOTHER INTENSE STAREDOWN ensues.
- This time, though, John calls out Caliborn as being the guy "behind all this". Caliborn yells aloud, to John and us, that this time, John will pay.
- John manages to get the upper hand and pummel Caliborn. Meanwhile, in the along-awaited confrontation on LOFAF, Karkat, Kanaya, Gamzee, Dave, Jake, and Jane are all killed. Rose and Terezi are severely injured, and several planets are collided into each other. HIC has won. She pops Aranea's ring off her finger, but just for good measure, HIC also breaks her neck, earning her a just death. John zaps in to the carnage and asks, "what the fuck happened here".
- Act 6 Act 6 Act 4 begins. Caliborn laments that he got beat up because "some teen" didn't like his story. He tries to tell us that he is "misunderstood". And to finish his work, he needs cold hard cash. Or the next best thing: CAL COINS, a cryptocurrency which he claims "TO LARGELY UNDERSTAND".
- Amidst the floating wreckage, John finds Dirk. Dirk isn't in the mood to chat, telling John, "I failed."
- John catches up to Roxy and Rose. Rose lives long enough to say that she regrets not telling Kanaya, or her mom, that she loved them. She dies, heroically.
- John tries to come to grips with the current situation, which is, by his own admission, the worst possible one. Roxy notes that the Condesce has systematically crushed her dreams once again, and wonders out loud if maybe they should just ride out "this doomed timeline".
- Suddenly, someone with rocket wings flies toward John and Roxy, but then crashes in a huge explosion. Nonetheless, Terezi, still blindfolded and bleeding from her chest wound, emerges from the wreckage, headbutts John, and tells him to "F1X TH1S".
- Jade and Calliope continue to catchup, and eventually Jade remembers that she'd met Callie before. Except, as the conversation continues, it becomes obvious this isn't a Jade we're familiar with, as she details an encounter with a version of Calliope that dominated.
- Terezi wants John to talk to Typheus to see if he can learn how to use his new, retcon-like powers. However, she isn't sure what to change if actually manages to succeed in doing so. Roxy goes to see her denizen, Nix.
- They try something, and it doesn't work. John flies off to see his denizen.
- Jade begins to tell Calliope her story: she was sitting on the battleship one day on their journey when all of a sudden LOWAS exploded, killing John and Davesprite. According to the Calliope this Jade met, it was because a John elsewhere had met with Typheus and struck a deal, so that LOWAS's Typheus blew up the planet.
- Alternate Calliope, herself from a doomed timeline, relays the story of a John from a doomed timeline, which is to say, this John.
- John was given The Choice, and Typheus flooded the chamber with oil. Submerged with no means of escape, John could only do one thing: "retcon" the oil out of his present situation, and distribute it all throughout reality. (This means that like John's arm, several back pages of Homestuck now have oil in them.)
- John is then finally able to play his instrument, and the breeze blows all throughout LOWAS and, indeed, reality. (Lil' Seb helpfully places ACT 6 ACT 6 back in its slot, though.)
- Afterward, John meets up again with Roxy, fresh from seeing Nix, though all Nix told her was to go to LOWAS.
- Roxy notes that the sky of LOWAS is now "blank". John posits it is because "we are literally nowhere".
- They chat a bit more, but John goes off again to try to use his powers, though he still doesn't really have a plan, per se. After a few false starts, he remembers that thing him and Terezi tried earlier, so he tries it again: "there's no place like home".
- Armed with a new password-based system, we enter "HOME". This time, Terezi's plan works.
- We quickly check-in with Vriska and Meenah, who find themselves on some sort of carnival planet. After assurances that it isn't the "dark carnival", they decide to get tattoos.
- Terezi gives John a list of her memories, which correspond to events in her past which need changing. She uses only her memories because she doesn't feel comfortable trying to fix anyone else's mistakes. She then dies. John continues thinking troll girls are weird.
- Jane finds herself in the same place as Jade and Calliope. She gets hooked up with her own trollsona with a quickness.
- John's first task: grab the ring of life. He is zapped back to the big reunion, which he immediately makes weird, but he's out of there quickly enough.
- Vriska and Meenah take in some exploding realities. Vriska has an anchor tattoo on her left arm.
- John begins his trip into the past in earnest. First he rescues witness to Lemonsnout's trial. Next, writes "you dont need him" on the wall of Terezi's block after the most adorable conversation in Homestuck history. John, like us, puzzles over who "him" is.
- Jane is apparently telling the story of their trickster mode adventures. However, it also becomes clear that this Jane is also not the one we're familiar with. She, too, was also turned into an evil cyborg, but in her timeline the Derse prisoners managed a prisonbreak. In the ensuing melee, Roxy is killed.
- Speaking of whom, Roxy buries Rose on LOWAS, and is comforted by Jaspersprite.
- John next jumps to Terezi's investigation of Tavros's death, and he deploys the witness from earlier. John tries to figure out what anything he's done has to do with anything. He next winds up next to Nepeta's corpse, with a crime scene faked by Gamzee to make it look like Vriska did it. And, indeed, he was told to write "it was gamzee you idiot", but he also gets in a note saying that regardless if she meant Dave or Karkat, she should probably save herself the trouble and avoid Dave.
- Next, he finds himself in Gamzee's weird, Chrono Trigger shop lair, where she decided to go after Vriska. He is told to honk a horn. He does. She turns only to find Gamzee. While John readies for the next step, Terezi bursts from the room as before, but this time with Gamzee hogtied.
- Vriska and Meenah continue their dead funtimes. The ghost of the author is bummed.
- Jane continues relaying her tale, saying her programming prevented her from reviving Roxy. However, she says there was an unanticipated factor within the group she faced, someone HIC didn't account for.
- John makes his last jump, right to the moment before Terezi stabs Vriska. Vriska is the one that turns on hearing his voice, which is convenient because he then delivers a flying punch to her face. She is KO'd. Terezi demands to see the scarf, what with it being written in her blood and all, but John refuses. At any rate, he can't complete the last item, which is to give Terezi (or Vriska?) his wallet, as he doesn't have it.
- As the other trolls converge on the roof of the meteor, John decides to flee before things get too weird, though Karkat doesn't make that easy.
- John returns to LOWAS and gives Roxy the ring. They, and a tree, zap away together.
- Jade's memory is sufficiently resolved, and she realizes they were never dead at all. Just knocked out by our favorite telepathic troll. ::::)

Eurothread, the British Elections have started - Recruit me a team of Party Leaders with attitude!

We're heading into a pretty interesting election - Some of our parties are pro-Europax, some are anti. It looks like tomorrow election will have a really messy result which'll require the mysterious White Scottish Ranger to break the deadlock.

One thing's for certain though - EuroPAX may never be the same again.

We might even get around to arranging another one after Eurovision is over. I hear London's lovely this time of year...

We Make Detailed Plastic Not-Toys in the [Gunpla & Other Models] Thread

Welcome, one and all, to the thread on scale plastic models...

ABV2cLWl.jpg

...of giant robots!

wYZEniYl.jpg

And model kits of other things too! Really! I might be a Gunpla nut but if you just build, say, models of cars or what-have-you then you're welcome in this thread. Model-makers should all get along, I say. (And yes there is a Gypsy Danger model in the works... or so rumors on the internet say.)

It seems to me there is a resurgence in the popularity of Gundam Plastic (Gunpla) and other similar mecha models outside of Japan these days. I cannot speculate as to why this seems to be the case, but I can celebrate it with my fellow model-makers! And perhaps you, dear reader, have never built an awesome plastic model of an equally awesome giant robot... (or perhaps you've built a few and are looking to take things to the next level) then, allow me to provide some further information.

CHOOSING YOUR MECHA MODEL: WHAT GRADE DO YOU WANT?

The official Gundam model kits made my Bandai are, for the most part, produced in three scales: 1/144th, 1/100th, and 1/60th size.

(I think the one on the far left is a capsule toy...)

There are numerous different types of models aimed at varying skill levels. Most models you find these are labelled as High Grade. But not to worry, new model-builder: there are kits of this grade aimed towards people looking for their first kit. They include, but are not limited to:

1/144 HGUC Gunpla Starter Set: Gundam Vs. Zaku II

1/144 HG 00 Gundam

1/144 HGBF Build Gundam Mk-II

I personally recommend you consider a 1/100th scale HG model, new kit-builder. Why? The parts are larger and thus usually easier to work with. The smaller 1/144th scale tend to be cheaper, though, so it's a matter of what you think is the best fit for your skill level and budget. Do not fret and remember to take your time and, if you run into a problem, ask for advice in this thread or search online. There are a variety of good guides out there. (Some of which I've linked on the bottom of this post.)

If you've built a few models by now I would suggest you look in to the next two more advanced grades of Gunpla: Master Grade and Real Grade. 1/100th scale Master Grade (MG) models are a step up in complexity from their 1/100th HG equivalents. They often feature articulated "skeletons" underneath their armor, more pieces, and a lot more range of movement. Of course, there is a greater cost to go along with this jump in quality and complexity. But if you're really enjoying building Gunpla, I recommend you treat yourself to a MG kit of your favorite mecha. (If there is such a model... but MG kits are becoming much more common as time goes on. So fear not, fan of that one obscure mecha!)

Real Grade (RG) kits are a lot like MG kits... except they are 1/144th scale! This means you are often dealing with nearly as many pieces as a MG kit, except all those pieces are smaller and thus more of a challenge to work with. The upside is I've seen RG kits often go for less than their MG kit equivalents. There is an increasing variety of RG kits available, and while I have yet to build one myself they do look and articulate better than 1/144th scale HG kits.

Then, of course, we come to the big kahuna of Gunpla kits: The Perfect Grade! These kits are 1/60th scale, and therefore pretty darn big! They have fully-articulated interior "skeletons", more moving parts than you can count, and often some metal parts (such as screws and bolts) for added stability and durability. They look amazing, take quite a bit of effort to build and (of course) cost quite a bit more than, say, a Master Grade kit of the same mecha. I salute you, brave model builder, if you have ever tackled a PG kit!

I should note there are "Super-Deformed" (SD) kits available as well: these are little mini kits of Gundam mecha squished and morphed to look, well, adorable. They are usually pretty cheap, have few parts, and have their own charm. (If you are into that sort of thing, I suppose.) Think Hello Kitty does Gundam. Some people recommend these as good starter kits, due to their simplicity and low cost. In my experience, however, they almost always need plenty of glue, which is a nice segway into...

BUILDING YOUR GUNPLA: PAINT, GLUE, MARKERS, OH MY!

Back in the day Gundam models needed paint to look nice and glue to stay together. (Remember those old 1/144th scale model kits you could get at Toys 'R Us? I do. They were not very good...) These days, however, you can put together most HG kits with little to no glue. I do recommend using glue when possible, though. It makes your model less likely to shed a part. I personally use Model Master Liquid Cement. You can use "glue anything" types of cement and glue, but usually modeling cement is cheaper and better-suited for the task at hand. Make sure to do your gluing in a well-ventilated area! And remember to stop if you ever feel woozy or get a headache. Model glue is not harmless stuff, and I always wear gloves & a respirator (or do my gluing right in front of an open window) if I can.

Now we come to painting. There are some excellent guides on painting & detailing Gunpla which I will include below. Generally speaking you have three types of painting you can do: spray painting (with "rattle cans" as they are often called), by-hand painting using various brushes, and airbrushing. I personally stick to acrylic paints since they are water-based and thus easy to thin. They are also the least toxic, but still use them with caution! Right now I stick to rattle cans and hand painting. I use the former outside on newspaper or some other surface I don't care about getting paint on. The latter I use in front of a window, and mostly just use for touch-ups, small pieces, and details.

Now there are two ways to paint pieces of your model... in the molding cradle and after you take them out. Really, I highly recommend you cut pieces out of their cradle, sand them, and maybe even glue a few together before painting! It might mean you have to paint one or two pieces at a time but I've found the end result looks so much nicer. Painting pieces in the molding cradle means saving time but cutting corners with the end product. Besides, you're going to be painting individual pieces if your ever upgrade to an Airbrush...

Airbrushing is something I would love to get in to. I've never done it so take my advice with a grain of salt, folks. Unlike the other kinds of painting it requires a higher initial investment. Namely, putting down a chunk of change ($200... ish) for a mini compressor and an airbrush. You can go crazy and easily spend $1,000 or more, but most advice I've received recommends going for a middle-range compressor and brush. The two major types of brush are gravity-feed (or top-feed) and bottom-feed. Each has their own unique advantages and quirks, so I really recommend you do your research first. If all else fails maybe you can borrow one from a friend and see how you like using it. Airbrushing often produced some truly impressive and beautiful paint jobs.

Panel lining is a popular way to make your model (not just Gunpla) look better. However, some find it frustrating or even confusing. How do you get those thin lines full of ink or paint? How do you clean up errors? Well, first see if you can't pick up some Gundam Markers. Yes, they are expensive but the fine-tipped ones are actually pretty darn good for doing panel lines and subtle details. Practice on one model, or maybe on a spare part. Some folks say you can panel line without doing any painting at all, but I find the ink tends to stick a bit better sometimes if there is a paint coat below it. You are going to want to use a clear topcoat as a sealant anyways. As for undoing mistakes... Make sure to let the ink or paint dry before handling a piece! That's good general advice, really. And I've found a proper white plastic eraser actually removes the ink from a Gundam Marker! (The super-fine tip type, or the fine-tip type... not the actual paint markers...) I use a Staedtler Mars plastic eraser myself.

Now, with all that being said about painting... most MG and PG models need lno painting, really, save for perhaps a topcoat to deal in panel lines and other details. These days Gunpla model pieces are molded in show-accurate colors, even the HG kits.

So... now your Gunpla model is painted, glued, and looking good. Why not post a picture of it in this thread? Why not share your advice, your works-in-progress, and ask some questions? I am no expert but I'll do my best to help folks out! In fact, here is an assortment of tutorials and how-to blogs I've found useful:

A Comparison of HG, MG, RG and PG models of the same mecha. In this case, a Zaku II.

(No, I have no idea why he's not wearing a shirt in that one picture...)

I make no promises my advice or the advice given in the links above is the "Gunpla gospel." Do your research, practice, and go with what feels like it'd be the most fun for you! After all, this hobby is supposed to be fun!

Now... if you've read all this and are thinking, "gee, building models sure looks like fun... but I don't really like Gundam mecha." Well, why not build a Zoid model?

Iq9NdIe.jpg

...Or a scale model of the Enterprise?

...Or a model of a real airplane that actually exists?

Whatever your passions, I am sure there is a model out there for you! In fact, feel free to talk about whatever models you are working on in this thread. I've found good advice can apply to almost any kind of model. Please, feel free to share your advice, questions, works-in-progress and finished models here.

You like raids, yes? Well we got raids. Here are a few things that you need to do if you want to Shamble Raid.
  1. Download and install MilkGlass!
  2. Download and install Ventrilo. You don't need to have a mic, but you do need to be able to, and know how to listen.
  3. Download an up to date version of Deadly Boss Mods.
  4. Know your class. The Elitist Jerks Forums generally have good information for every class, so give some of their information a read through. You can also ask in guild and people will try to help.
  5. Have your gear properly gemmed and enchanted. Yes this costs gold. Tough shit, do it anyway. Don't be a Moopac.
  6. Be able to pay attention and think/act/react on your own.
  7. Have (at least) a rudimentary knowledge of the encounters in which you are about to partake.
Hey dudes I made a little UI guide thing for you bros that keep asking to help with yours. Uis are pretty personal things, no two Uis will be the same but I kinda want this to be like a starting point for you bros to get your Uis going.

Addons you better use if you're not a Feeg

Milkglass (its for butts)

Thats a good number off Addons I suppose, if you don't feel comfortable using all those at the same time or don't think you need to uses some of them thats fine. Start slow, Changing your entire UI in a day can take some getting used to so if you just want to ease yourself in then by all means be a babbie.

HOW I MINE FOR ADDON?!?!

Here I'll tell you how I set up my various Addons just as kind of a reference, If you don't like the way I Set my stuff you can change it to your liking or send a complaint to mirren. I'll also put picture I guess.

Bagnon: just Set it and forget it. It also lets you see whats in the bags of all your characters just by selecting the little portrait of yourself in the corner and switching to another toon.
Spoiler:

Button Facade: Add a border to your buttons. Make it so you do have a border. Do what ever you feel is right with your bars. No real set up need, just find the button facade menu in your addons panel and choose which on you want

ClassTimer: I love classtimer, not only does it show any buff or debuff you want on your target, it also does the same for you, your pet, and your focus! I set mine to be just above my bars, and make them stack up in stead of down. To add buffs or debuffs to tracking just go into timers-->extra--> then add the spell you want.
Spoiler:
classt.png

Clique: lets you easily bind stuff to keys or key combos or mouse buttons or key and mouse button combos. The possibilities are endless! Setting your binds is straight forward and clique even has a little tutorial.

Docsdebugrunes: awesome for Dks compact addon that tell you all you need to know bout DK stuff like rune cooldowns duration of the infusion buff on your ghoul, size of the next blood shield if you choose to deathstrike after a hit. Its awesome

Dominos: I love dominos, perhaps my favorite addon, you can do pretty much anything you can think of with your bars and its easy to use.
Here is my set up You might not like they way I have my bars set but this is just an example.

Action Bar 1
Size: 12
Column: 6
Spacing: 13
Padding: 3
Scale: 122

Action Bar 2
Same as above

Action Bar 3
Size: 6
Columns: 6
Spacing: 30
Padding: 1
Scale: 77

Action Bar 4
Same as 3

Bar: 5
Size: 12
Columns: 12
Spacing:4
Padding: 2
Scale:86

Bars 6-10 are unused for but you can do with them what you will
Spoiler:

These are numbers are scaled to my monitor so they might be a little different then what you desire but you can fiddle with them till they are right.

Elkanos Buff Bars: My preferred replacement for the blizzard buff icon. Pretty straightforward set up. Just drag it yo where ever you desire, you can add or remove buffs that you want to track through the options menu
Spoiler:
ebb.png

Grid: Grid is awesome, I use it as a party/raid frames replacement but its also invaluable for telling who has aggro, who's dying, Who's dead, incoming heals, who has what debuff and a bunch of other junk. Setting up grid is an adventure in and of itself but thats more for healers and I assume they already know what to do. The base version of Grid works just fine as a party/raidframe. Set up can be a bit daunting just because of the sheer number of menus and sub menus but its pretty simple to set up once you get past them.
Spoiler:
grfi.png

Omen3: Aggro meter. Useful for tanks and DPS who don't want to pull aggro and die like chumps (Revash). Pretty much set and forget unless you want to tweak the visuals. I personally have it set to transparent along with recount.

Recount: Dps meter to show how bad you are, why are you so bad, do 2k more dps.
Spoiler:
rec.png

SexyMap: Map mod lets you put all kinds of pretty borders and shit around your map. Also allows you to move it away from the top corner postion. I use the simple square preset because I don't like a lot of bullshit around my map. Maps are serious goddamn business and anyone who tells you otherwise is a communist sympathizer
Spoiler:
map.png

SLData Text: This is a replacement for the regular menu bar, the one that shows your latency and all that other junk you hardly ever look at. To get to the config for this you have to type /sldt.
Spoiler:
sldt.png
Tidy Plates and Tidy Plates: Threat Plates: the semicoloning pt 2 race to shoe mountain: Name plate mod that rules. They aren't as useless as the blizzard ones. They show who has aggro on what how much aggro, cast bars and other life saving tips.

ToolTip on mouse: it puts the tool tips on your cursor.

Deadly boss mods: Derp

Xperl: A UnitFrame mod that lets you change and move all the unit frames ever. I have mine set to not show party or raid frames because I use Grid for that. To navigate to the config menu just type /xperl and away you go.
Spoiler:
xdr.png

Once you set up all your addons and stuff you might have a cool UI like this or a horrible abomination, Who knows?
