[Wakfu/Dofus] thread! Eat a blanquette of gobbal, drink a choppe of milk

"In the beginning, there was nothing. A void. Then, suddenly, the two energies that created everything burst forth: Wakfu, incarnated by the Great Goddess, and Stasis, incarnated by the Great Dragon. As they were all alone, it didn’t take very long for boredom to set in.

So, to pass the time (even though time didn't really exist yet!), they started dancing. From this dance, and from the love of the Great Dragon for the Goddess, a cosmic egg was born: the Krosmoz, the universe.

The vast universe of the Krosmoz comprised thousands and thousands of planets, but there was one in particular that was going to be the epicentre of the most extraordinary events. It is said that at the beginning of time, this planet was populated by a powerful civilisation that was wiped out by a terrible war. Myths indicate that the planet remained barren for millennia before a second generation of gods cropped up. One of these gods, Osamodas, was a dab hand with a whip...

With one crack of his weapon, he sent his sacred dragons to breathe life into the desolate lands. Thus, the World of Ten was created, and named for the ten gods present.

It is in this world that the most powerful heroes of the Krosmoz were incarnated. Heroes as solid as Cracklers and as strong as Trools, often with less intelligence than Tofus. By praying to the gods, these adventurers managed to acquire phenomenal powers!

Understandably, worship played an important part in their lives. Two minor goddesses seized the opportunity during this deluge of devotion to develop their hitherto unheard-of religions, joining the others in the divine pantheon. This double culmination resulted in twelve gods ruling over the planet, whose name consequently needed to be changed!

Henceforth, the land was declared ‘the World of Twelve’... "

Yes, it's finally time for SE++'s own Wakfu thread. Ankama, the company responsible for the universe, have created two MMOs, Dofus and Wakfu, two cartoons, Wakfu and Dofus, a board game, Krosmaster Arena, a CCG, although I'm not sure it's still in circulation, and tons of derived video games.

The MMOs

Basically, it's Final Fantasy Tactics where you control only one character. Control one of twelve (15 in Wakfu) different classes; fight, gain loot, XP, etc. The thing to note is that a class represents the choice to worship one particular god out of the Twelve. A pandawa, for example, worships Pandawa, the goddess of drinks, good times, and drunken brawlers. They look like humanoid pandas. In fact, all devotees of the same god share certain physical characteristics with their god. All iops, for example, have red spiky hair. Anyway.

The iops favor close-quarter fighting; the cra are archers (cra::archers, eh? eh? Get used to it). The sadida fight with plant magic, the osamodas with animals, the feca (cafe; french for coffee :smh:) are protectors, the xelor are time mages, the sram are rogues and assassins, enutrof find and covet treasures, pandawas are, like I said, drunken brawlers, the sacrier fight better the more they get hurt, the ecaflip rely on luck, and the eniripsa heal (last I checked, not well).

Dofus is Ankama's first MMO, and while it says F2P, like Wakfu, you can't actually do anything outside of certain zones. The goal of the game is going on raids for dofuses, dragon eggs that hold immense power, going on adventures, etc. It's pretty standard stuff.

Wakfu, on the other hand, has a whole "player-centric" theme going on. Players mint their own money, participate in governments, conquer lands, lead governments (if you're elected), make laws, protect species, punish disobedient players, watch out for an environmental balance, the works. The idea is, after the Chaos of Ogrest (he managed to get all six primordial dofuses, you see), the sea levels rose and the world became more chaotic. So Wakfu is set 190 years after Ogrest united the Dofuses, putting an end to the era of Dofus and beginning the era of Wakfu.

Wakfu

The story of Yugo. Set 10 years after the MMO Wakfu. One day awakens with the power to shoot portals out of his hands. Portal portals, although they don't need to stick to surfaces. He sets off on an adventure to find out his true family after receiving a message from the dragon Grougaloragran via his bird friend, Az. Accompanied by the iop Tristepin de Percedal, the cra Evangelyne, the sadida Amalia and the enutrof Ruel Schtroud. They're in a race against the evil xelor Nox, who wants Grougaloragran's power for his own sinister plans.

Nox

This series is on par with, if not surpassing in some aspects, Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's less grounded and more heroic-fantasy, but it's more colourful and a little less Main-character-is-the-center-of-the-world. Also the big villain is absolutely more memorable than Generic-Big-Meanie Ozai. The animation is in Flash, but it's really great Flash and it allows for very fluid fight scenes. Like this one.

Yes, it's in French, but there's a Kickstarter for an English dub (it's already been dubbed in other European languages). Also you can find fansubs online. Currently finished its second season, no plots are left dangling, but there are 3 45-minute specials coming out this year (and if the Kickstarter makes 300K they'll be dubbed and added to Blu-Ray-tier pledges.)

Dofus: Aux trésors de Kerubim

Lighter in tone than Wakfu, it's 11-minute episodes of a grandfather, Kerubim, recounting his adventures to his grandson. Absolutely adorable. Actually the grandson, Joris, makes an appearance in Wakfu, >300 years later. People live old in the Krosmoz.

Books

There's a ton of graphic novels, some fleshing out the characters from the cartoon, some not. There's Remington, a graphic novel series about the cunning adventures of Remington Smisse, master rogue (a subtype of sram), there's Maskemane, about a zobal warrior (a type of sadida). There's Boufbowl, there's a Dofus and Wakfu manga-format graphic novels, there's Wakfu books. Ankama has been busy in the years since Wakfu went off the air.

So that's the important parts. Discuss the cartoons, recount your experiences with the MMOs, contribute to the Kickstarter. Most importantly, DON'T MENTION THE WAR ANIMES. Also don't perv on the girls. Not cool.
